Apartment Security

Whether you are renting or own your home, you deserve to feel safe. When you are renting an apartment, you might not have as many options as you would prefer to have for security. But this does not mean that there are not security features and products that you can take advantage of – as a matter of fact, when it comes to apartment security, you do have options as a renter.

Here, we are going to discuss apartment security. Keep reading to find out more about some of the security products and services that you can take advantage of when you rent an apartment!

Be Mindful of Lighting

If you are in an apartment, pay attention to the lighting. Perhaps your unit is situated down a dark hallway. Be sure to use lighting when you can, whether that means keeping the light on outside your front door, or even a light on inside so it can look as though someone is home. You might even want to have timed lights put in or motion sensor lights.

Make Sure Any Damage is Repaired

Do you have a window that is cracking? This might be a security threat. Do you have a front door lock that does not always work smoothly? Again, this can pose a security risk, and it is important to have this fixed. It is a good idea to talk with the maintenance team at your community, or with your landlord.

Front Door Security

Are you happy with the degree of security for your front door? For instance, is there a chain lock, deadbolt, peephole or even a camera? These are features that you might want to think about having put in.

Window Locks

If you are on the bottom level of your building, then it is very important to have a lock for your window. If you have a patio with a window, no matter the floor you are on, this is another reason to consider having a lock put in for your window.

Upgrade Door Locks

We mentioned having a deadbolt put in, but you might want to consider upgrading the regular locks that came on the front door, too. You might not know who otherwise can access your unit.

Use a Safe

Having a safe is a great idea whether you rent or own. This is something that you can use whether you are in an apartment, townhome or single-family home. It is a good spot to keep cash, weapons, paperwork and any other important, irreplaceable items.

Use a Camera

A security camera can make a big difference when it comes to your apartment security. Whether you want to have one inside, right in the doorway to keep track of who is coming inside and to have evidence if ever needed, or you want one on the outside of your door, it is a good idea to have a conversation about cameras with your landlord.

We hope you now have a better idea of options for apartment security.
